Irish company takes ‘Oscar’ at prestigous seafood expo

Irish Atlantic Seafood Company (iASC) are winners of the 2015 Priz d’Elite for Europe’s best ‘seafood product line’, and earn the accolade as the first Irish company to take the award.

The Cork-based company scooped the top prize for its Something Fishy range which enhances fish dishes with shellfish protein combined with Irish butter, seafood and seasoning to produce a ‘umami’ or savour taste.

The product was developed and tested at BIM’s Seafood Development Centre in Co Cork which provides expertise and support to help seafood companies bring their fish products to market.

Speaking at the world’s largest global seafood Expo, in Brussels, Colin Ross, managing director of iASC said winning the Prix d’Elite was equivalent of the Oscars for the seafood industry:

“We are extremely grateful to BIM’s Seafood Development Centre who pushed us to do this work to devleop the range in the first place. In fact, we wouldn’t exist were it not for the SDC who saw the possibilities in our products and guided us on how to add value through innovation.”

Aileen Deasy, Seafood Technologist at the SDC said the iASC team were well-deserved winners:

“We have worked with Colin and James for over three years, supporting them through product conception, research, testing and development. We’re very proud to have been part of their journey to award-winning success.”
