Irish organic mussel soup shortlisted for international award
Twenty-one Irish companies are participating at Seafood Expo Global 2014 (May 6-8), the world’s largest seafood trade fair. Shellfish, whitefish, pelagic and finfish products in live, chilled, canned frozen and smoked formats, will be showcased to 25,000 potential buyers and sellers from 145 countries worldwide.

“It is encouraging to see such a strong Irish presence at the Seafood Expo Global as international trade events remain a critical business development platform for Irish exporters,” remarked Aidan Cotter, Bord Bia chief executive.
Three exhibitors are launching new products:
Kush Organic Seafarms (Kenmare, Co Kerry)- organic mussel soup (nominated for the Prix d’Elite competition that recognises the best new seafood products developed for the European market)
Good Fish Processing (Co Cork) – Mr. Good’s Fabulous Fish (‘Amazin’ Cajun Spiced Salmon Supreme’; ‘Glorious Garlic & Herb Cod Fillets’ and ‘Heavenly Zesty Lemon Hake Fillets’)
Rockabill Seafood (Co Dublin) – ‘Irish Frozen at Sea Prawn’ 2kg pack
In 2013, Irish seafood exports to over 80 markets worldwide were valued at €493m, representing a 30% increase since 2010. Roughly 65% of Irish seafood exports are sold in EU markets (France, UK and Spain). External EU markets (Nigeria, Cameroon, Russia and China are the main markets for mackerel, herring, blue whiting and boarfish. Exports to Asian markets reached €38m (up 41%) on 2012.
