Maritime book reviews and competition copies

Ocean Focus (Winter) 2020 reviews two extremely interesting maritime books: Spirorbis: Stories from my Life (Peter Vine) and People of the Sea: A Maritime History of Beara (Marc O’Sullivan Vallig).

In her review, Trish Marina describes Spirorbis as a ‘hefty volume filled with gorgeous photographs and dramatic tales of adventure’.

And she asks: ‘How does one present the stories of a life that spans 75 years and includes traveling to over 30 countries’ earning the author ‘a Ph.D. in marine biology, raising a family, starting several businesses and building friendships and professional relationships all over the world’.

Liam Walsh, who reviewed our second title, tells us he ‘reluctantly accepted, having in mind dis-interesting stories from a by-gone era of the Beara Peninsula.

‘I was wrong,’ he writes, as the author brought him on an ‘intriguing journey through the ages of the Peninsula’ that held his interest ‘with fascinating stories on Irish mythology associated with Beara Peninsula, especially the story of The Children of Lir.’
