Works at Dunmore East Harbour to attract larger fishing vessels

A €6m dredging project at Dunmore East Harbour will deliver better accessibility, landing times and improved vessel management when completed in late summer, according to maine minister Simon Coveney.

Announcing the award contract to L&M Keating Ltd, Minister Coveney added that years of siltation had restricted vessel traffic, making manoeurability and fish landing very problematic.

“This announcement is a further indication of this government’s commitment to the fishing industry in the south east. This is the single largest capital investment in our fishery harbours this year.

“When completed, the harbour will be equipped to attract larger Irish and foreign fishing vessels, while also benefiting other commercial and leisure harbour users and ultimately stimulate further economic development in the area with a spin off for local job creation.”
