Harvesting rainwater to green seafood processing

BIM, Ireland’s Seafood Development Agency is hosting a rainwater harvesting webinar (March 25) for seafood processing businesses, to examine the benefits of installing rainwater harvesting systems to improve water management reduce water costs and to green their businesses.

Co-hosted by Central Solutions, BIM’s water stewardship programme partners, the webinar is the first in a series of sustainable resource management events organised under the agency’s Green Seafood Business Programme.

This programme helps processors save money and reduce their impact on the environment, helping to make seafood production more green.

Other webinars will address efficient energy management, waste and emissions.

“Water is a shared natural resource and is essential to everything we do in the seafood sector. However supply is limited, and this will pose a major challenge in the coming decade, We must act now to ensure we understand the potential risks to seafood busineses and identify sustainable solutions to this significant issue,” warns Martina O’Brien, Green Programme Coordinator.

The webinar is an opportunity to “gain awareness around sustainable water management, develop a better understanding of water use on your site, and identify potential cost saving opportunities in relation to water use”.

The life streamed event will include speakers from BIM, Central Solutions, and member of the seafood processing sector and is funded under the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund.
